Considerations regarding a university in Ulm go back to the 50s. The idea became reality on 25th February 1967. Ulm University is located on the Oberer Eselsberg and is an essential component of the Wissenschaftsstadt Ulm (science town).

Hochschule Ulm
The Hochschule Ulm (University of Applied Sciences) is the oldest higher education establishment in the Ulm region. Its origins lie in the state engineering school of Ulm which laid the foundations for the conversion to the Hochschule Ulm between 1960 and 1972. The Hochschule Ulm and the Fachhochschule Neu-Ulm work together closely and offer students from across Germany a tailored and widely distributed range of study options.

Hochschule Neu-Ulm
The Hochschule Neu-Ulm was opened in 1994 as a department of the Fachhochschule Kempten. Since 1.10.1998, the Fachhochschule Neu-Ulm has been independent. The Hochschule in Neu-Ulm and Ulm work together closely and offer students from around Germany a tailored and widely distributed range of study options. In 2008, the Hochschule Neu-Ulm moved into its new building in Wiley.
